As part of the international project ENTENDER, in which Universidad de Colima and eight different HEIs from countries such as England, Italy, Greece, Argentina, and Mexico participate, a virtual workshop on "Neurodiversity in Higher Education" was held for UNIVA staff in its various campuses.
The objective of this workshop was to "sensitize the teaching and administrative staff about neurodiversity and the professional training of neurodivergent students. The workshop was conducted by ENTENDER project collaborators and professors of the Faculty of Psychology from UdeC: Dr. Norma Angélica Moy López and Neuropsychol. Cynthia Raquel García Escárpita Ferrer.
Neurodiversity is a generic term that includes conditions such as: Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Tourette Syndrome, and Autism Spectrum, all of which are currently considered as forms of human diversity that require the adoption of alternative perspectives to promote inclusion and exploit the creative potential of individuals.
Susana Aurelia Preciado Jiménez, General Director of Higher Education at Universidad de Colima, said that ENTENDER project is co-funded by the ERASMUS+ program of the European Union and led by Coventry University in the United Kingdom, in which a total of nine international partners are participating, including Universidad de Colima.
According to Ms. Preciado, one of the objectives of Universidad de Colima in joining this international project "is to make visible the situation of neurodiversity in the students of the institution and at the same time, to provide them with options to enter the labor market".
